Exchanging Currency

The currency in Brazil is called "Real" and it is denoted "R$". On March, 21 the exchange rate was R$ 2.71 for one Euro and R$ 2.27 for one US Dollar. Please click here for updated rates.

The currency exchange office at the main lobby of the airport in Florianopolis is open from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekends and from 9:00 to 20:00 on weekdays.

If you are planning to arrive on Sunday evening and you are taking a taxi to the hotel you might consider exchanging some money in Sao Paulo or Rio before boarding your connecting flight to Florianopolis.

It is not the rule in Florianopolis that merchants should accept foreign currency. For instance the hotel does not. On the other hand credit cards are widely accepted throughout Brazil.

I was informed that there are several foreign exchange offices nearby the hotel.
